Are you excited for the upcoming Ford F-150 Electric? If so, you’re not alone. A recent survey from Cox Automotive found that nearly 40 percent of prospective pickup buyers are thinking about getting an electric model in the next two years — and more of them are considering Ford than any other brand.
Ford has been thrashing the competition for decades with its bestselling, super-capable F-150 lineup. So it’s no surprise that potential pickup buyers know the brand and believe that the F-150 Electric will be just as great as other Ford trucks.
As a sneak peek at what an all-electric Ford pickup could do, the F-150 lineup just added another hugely powerful and efficient option: the class-exclusive 3.5-liter PowerBoost™ Full Hybrid V6 engine.
The F-150’s PowerBoost™ engine uses both gas and electricity to generate an astounding 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque. With all this power and torque, PowerBoost™-equipped models can tow up to 12,700 pounds and handle a max payload of more than 2,100 pounds.
The PowerBoost™ engine gives F-150 drivers another secret weapon, too: the Pro Power Onboard generator. On PowerBoost™ models, this tool delivers a whopping 7.2 kilowatts to help you power a welder or a jackhammer — or a microwave, TV, and space heater for your next camping trip or tailgating weekend in San Antonio, Texas.
We don’t have a lot of information about the in-development F-150 Electric yet — but based on what the PowerBoost™ can already do, a fully electric Ford truck has the potential to be something even more special.
