It’s important to regularly wash your truck’s exterior and vacuum its interior — but to truly keep your ride in tiptop shape, there’s more you should be doing. Here’s how to detail your truck and keep it looking like new for years to come.
Give it a thorough wash
Start by giving your truck a good exterior wash. With a washing mitt and soap designed for vehicles, go over every reachable inch of the exterior — and make sure this step gets rid of all dirt, dust, and other debris. You’ll also want to wash the tires and wheels with special cleaners. Carefully dry the truck with a soft microfiber cloth or towel.
Use clay and wax
Once the truck’s exterior is thoroughly cleaned, go over the paint with a specially formulated automotive clay bar to remove contaminants. You may want to polish the paint as well. Finally, wax your truck to shield its paint and clear coat.
Clean the interior
Detailing your truck’s interior with care is a crucial step. Remove the mats and clean them. Clear out all the trash. Vacuum the carpets and upholstery, and use vacuum cleaner attachments for hard-to-reach crevices. Use the appropriate cleaning products on the carpets, upholstery, and other surfaces. Make sure to cleanse cup holders, vents, knobs, door pockets, and other easy-to-overlook areas.
Get under the hood
If you really want to be thorough, detail your truck’s engine bay. Gently spray the engine and engine bay with a degreaser or other special cleaning product, thoroughly rinse the area with water, and blow it dry.
